Cresent Vitality, continuing the work of Springfield Charitable into a new era with development of a range of Social Enterprises

Springfield Charitable Association (SCA)

Springfield Charitable Association (SCA) is a charitable social enterprise providing
services for the community in West Belfast, and beyond, since its establishment in 1980 by a group of local residents in the Clonard area. It was set up at the height of the Troubles, in this area of high deprivation, with the aim of improving the quality of life and the health and well-being of the residents of the community. Since then, SCA has gradually expanded the services it offers and currently offers services in three main areas: a day centre, an advice centre and SCA social enterprises, specifically a the Health and Wellbeing Hub including a hydrotherapy pool.

SCA has 18 employees and approximately 12 volunteers.

In order to develop its provision and offer services of the highest quality, it was decided to purchase and refurbish a derelict building in Cupar Street, with an investment of £1.8 million. This was completed in March 2019 and the new building had a Day Resource Centre, a suite of advice rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, a small gymnasium, a conference facility that can cater for 80 people, administration and management offices and over 2,000 square feet of rentable office space.

As part of it’s Strategic Plan for the period April 2023 – March 2026 the organisation is entering a new era where brand and digital presence will be key to success and longevity of the organisation and its evolving range of services.

The launch of Crescent Vitality will ensure that the charitable work of SCA continues to exist and thrive, contributing to the health and well-being of members of our community.

The use of the hydropool has been so beneficial for Eoin and for us as a family to enjoy with him. Having the place to yourself with no worries about anyone else is only evident to all of us who’ve been through the experiences in public pools. The pool is clean, comfortable and being able to go from gentle waves to being moved around the water is always fun for Eoin.

Seamus Flannigan

Having a long session relaxing in a quiet, warm pool to stretch out Aoife’s muscles, floating on the surface and using the water jet was ideal. We also had her work on her stability against the current and the pool helped her sleep that night.
